In the Graduate Broadcast Cinema Department, we believe the development of an individual’s creative identity is the single most important part of a filmmaking education.

A compelling story, delivered through a unique personal perspective and presented with universal clarity, can inspire audiences around the world.

.

Collaborations between students and faculty from all of our majors allow ideas to flourish, providing an unparalleled creative environment for filmmakers.

Complete creative freedom and experimentation are the hallmarks of our program. Students may focus on the study of directing and screenwriting or a specialized creative role such as production designer, director of photography, editor or producer.

Our curriculum is customized to the individual student’s goals.

Every Broadcast Cinema student is given an opportunity to create, direct and own their work.

There are no competitions for a student to author and direct their own works. Some students may elect to create public service announcements or promotional films for real clients, such as the United Nations, through Designmatters.

Our proximity to Hollywood makes Art Center an ideal choice for aspiring and contemporary filmmakers to enhance their skills and develop their concepts.

We offer an environment of exemplary professional artists and filmmakers from around the globe.

TUITION

Fall 2009 Graduate Students
$16,673 tuition, per term
$250 Universal Access Fee, per term

Each term’s tuition covers a full-time program (12 units or more).

Tuition will be due and payable the Friday of the first week of classes. You may pay by check, credit card or cash.

If you choose not to pay the full amount of your tuition during that first week of school, you will be charged a $75 non-refundable finance charge but may take until the tenth week of the term to submit your balance due. Payments are made at the cashier's window of the Accounting Office if you are paying by check or cash.

Tuition Deposit for New Students
Accepted new students are required to submit a $200 nonrefundable tuition deposit to hold their places in the entering class.

Places in the class are reserved on a first-come, first-served basis; a place is not assured until the Admissions Office has sent a written notice confirming acceptance of the enrollment-agreement form and tuition deposit.

The deposit amount is deducted from full tuition due for the first term.

Supplies
In addition to tuition and fees, students must provide their own supplies and equipment. Students should budget approximately $1,750 per term for expendable supplies. About $350 for permanent equipment is needed on entrance.

Photography and Imaging students are sent a list of required cameras and equipment upon acceptance.

The estimated minimum cost per term for expendable photographic supplies is approximately $2,950 for the first and second terms and may increase during subsequent terms.

At the end of their first terms, Photography and Imaging students must purchase 4-by-5 and medium-format cameras ranging in price from $2,500 to $5,000 each.

These figures are approximate and vary according to market rates and individual projects. These estimates do not include purchase of a camcorder, software or computer. Although Art Center provides camcorders and computer facilities for required courses, we strongly recommend that students purchase their own equipment.

Living Expenses
Art Center does not provide room and board, and living costs vary based on the size of accommodations rented. However, we estimate an average amount for rent and food per term to be $5,000.

Students should allow an average of $1,000 for personal expenses and $1,000 for transportation each term.

Art Center Student Health Insurance
All enrolled Art Center students are automatically covered by a PPO student health insurance policy. This is a free benefit to students with no additional charge. It may not be waived but does become secondary to any other policy under which you are covered.

Students may also choose to purchase insurance for their eligible dependents who are the insured student's 1) legally married spouse who resides with the student; 2) Domestic Partner; or 3) child who is dependent on the student for support and maintenance and is under the age of 19 (25 if child is a full-time student).
