Since 1902, Morrison University has been offering business-related education and training to Nevadans. Founded by A.F. Atkinson as Nevada Business Institute, the original campus was located at the southwest corner of Sierra and Walnut (6th) Streets. Heald's Business College of California purchased Nevada Business Institute in August 1907 and began offering classes that fall. With emphasis on individual instruction, students could take classes in many professional fields. A fire swept through the College in 1945, and it was remodeled into a modern business school in 1949.Don S. Thompson, a Nevada native, purchased Reno Business College in 1964. In 1969, he moved the College to the corner of Wells Avenue and Wonder Street. MJM Colleges, Inc. and Mary Morrison (who remained president of the university until 2003) purchased Reno Business College in 1979.
